Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get tickets to Kansas' Biggest Rodeo?

You can purchase tickets on and after July 1, 2015 by calling Heritage Insurance at 785-543-2448.  They accept credit cards (Mastercard, Discover, and Visa.)

Or you can purchase tickets at the gate.  Keep in mind that your choice of seating may be limited if you wait to buy tickets till right before the rodeo.

How do I get to the rodeo grounds?

The rodeo grounds are on Highway 183, two miles north of Phillipsburg.  If you’re coming from Highway 36, turn north onto Highway 183 towards the west end of town (First National Bank is on the northeast corner) and go two miles.  If you’re coming from the north, stay on Highway 183 till you’re almost to Phillipsburg.

The rodeo grounds are on the west side of Highway 183.  You won’t miss them – just look for the American flags flying high above the grandstand!

What will I see at the rodeo?

In Phillipsburg, you’ll see world champion cowboys and cowgirls competing in rodeo’s seven events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).  The seven events include bareback riding, tie down roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, team roping, women’s barrel racing, and bull riding.  You’ll be entertained by some of the best rodeo entertainers in the business, including rodeo clown and barrelman Gizmo McCracken and Cowboy Kenny’s Steel Rodeo tour. Other top-notch rodeo personnel work our rodeo – eleven time PRCA Rodeo Announcer of the Year Randy Corley, six-time PRCA Bullfighter of the Year Dusty Tuckness and bullfighter Aaron Ferguson, both of whom were selected to work the NFR last year, and the bucking bulls and horses of the Beutler & Son Rodeo Company, who has been providing livestock to Kansas' Biggest Rodeo for 56 years

Who will compete at the rodeo?

Cowboys who are members of the PRCA (and cowgirls, of the Women’s Pro Rodeo Association) compete at Kansas' Biggest Rodeo.  Cowboys and cowgirls enter the rodeo by calling PRCA headquarters in Colorado Springs about 2 weeks prior; entries are final about 7 days before the rodeo begins.

What is Tough Enough to Wear Pink?

Tough Enough to Wear Pink is a campaign centered around western events, designed to stamp out cancer.  Phillipsburg rodeo fans are encouraged to wear pink on Thursday, July 30 to show awareness of and support for the fight against cancer.  For every person wearing pink to the rodeo that night, the rodeo committee will donate $1 to cancer research.  Prairie Horizon Agri-Energy, Channel Seeds (Josh and Melissa McClain), and Mehling Spraying Services (Jeff and Danille Landen) have partnered with Kansas' Biggest Rodeo by matching the rodeo’s donation to Relay for Life.

Over the past nine years, the rodeo has given more than $49,000 to the cause

Where can I find lodging?

Phillipsburg has 3 motels: the Rodeway Inn (785-540-4391), the Cottonwood Inn (785-543-2125) and Mark V (785-543-5223).  All fill up very quickly during rodeo week, so book your room as soon as possible.

If you can’t find a room in Phillipsburg, you can try one of the surrounding towns.  Stockton and Hays are south of Phillipsburg, 22 miles and 70 miles respectively.  Norton is 26 miles west.  Smith Center is 28 miles east.  Heading into Nebraska is Alma at 27 miles north, and further north is Holdrege (43 miles), and Kearney (81 miles).

What is an associate membership?

An associate membership allows you the privilege of a rib cookout on Wednesday, July 29, prior to slack at 7 pm, reserved VIP parking each night of the rodeo, and the chance to win a 2015 John Deere Gator or one of two trips to Las Vegas (cash value maximum $1,000 per trip) plus two tickets to the National Finals Rodeo.
Associate memberships can be purchased for $125 from any Phillipsburg Rodeo committee member, at the First National Bank and Trust (785-543-6511), Matteson Motors (785-543-2423) or Cliff’s Welding.  Only 300 associate memberships are sold each year.

How do I enter my child in the mutton bustin’?

Parents can enter their mutton busters right before each night of rodeo.  Mutton bustin’ registration is usually on the south side of the livestock pens.  If you can’t find it, you can always ask a rodeo committee man.  They’re the guys wearing the matching shirts!

There is no fee for the mutton bustin’; however, parents and guardians will need to sign a waiver.  We provide helmets for the children to wear.

Can I ride in the Grand Entry?

If you are a member of the Saddle Club, you may ride in the Grand Entry.  You must wear a long sleeved shirt and cowboy hat, and only one person per horse, please!

The Grand Entry in Phillipsburg is special – nearly 100 local riders ride in it each night.  We’d love to have you join us!

Is there entertainment after each night of rodeo?

The Dirty Bourbon band will play after the rodeo on July 31 and August 1, on the grounds, beginning right after the rodeo ends.  Of course, we’ll chill down plenty of your favorite Coors products for your enjoyment!

When does the parade start?

The parade begins at 2 pm on Saturday, August 1 and runs through downtown Phillipsburg.

How can I get on the list to purchase box seats?

For box seats, please email us at info@kansasbiggestrodeo.com to have your name put on the list.

Does the rodeo committee make money on this rodeo?

No, the rodeo committee does not take any profit from this rodeo, nor does any committee man gain financially.

Actually, each committee man and hundreds of volunteers give of their time, resources and skills to produce an event that brings 15,000 people to Phillipsburg each year.

If the rodeo makes a profit, (and there are years when it does not because of rain or other uncontrollable factors), the extra money is turned back into next year’s rodeo.

The committee strives to keep ticket prices affordable for families, and finds great satisfaction in producing one of the highest quality pro rodeos in the state.
